New Home Daycare Provider Watch Alert 21

Hi,

I’ve just been reading a MySpace blog by *Sweetness* who’s just about to open a home daycare.

Here’s an excerpt from her blog post:

“Just a little update. Life is okay, one day at a time. The boys are growing like mad crazy. My youngest is FINALLY running around. Joe will be home in a couple months. We can hardly wait. Lots of plans when he gets home. Including a visit from his mom and step-dad. I am now going through the process of opening a home daycare since it was so hard to keep a sitter when I was working at COX. The boys are going to be starting their own activities.”

Home Daycare: Tibetan Style

Hi,

I’ve just been reading a blog post by Rinch who worked at a childcare facility in Tibet. Luckily running a home daycare isn’t quite like this.

Here’s an excerpt:

“I have a new job! I work as a volunteer at the Rogpa centre which offers free childcare to recent Tibetan refugees so that the mum’s can go out to work. I’m enjoying my job but g’damn its hard work, 30 kids and only 5 carers! On the first day I got pissed all over (literally all over my leg) and had to change 2 pooey nappies….And we’re not talking nice throw away pampers we’re talking cloth nappies….no wet wipes…and lots of chunky exploding bums! Ah well I suppose its all good karma!”

Home Daycare License

Hi,

I’ve just been reading an interesting web page all about home daycare licensing which I though you might find helpful.

Here’s an excerpt:

“In theory, almost all home daycares are required to meet state licensing regulations for health and safety to operate. But in practice, many get away without one, especially if the provider is taking care of only one or two children besides her own.

Many states require home daycare providers to go through a background check and some training, according to the Children’s Defense Fund, but only a few states inspect all family childcare homes. Some states require nothing more than that the provider mail in a self-certification form or add her name to a list.”

Home Daycare Overview

Hi,

I’ve just been reading a great overview of what home day care is all about. I like the clear and concise explanation and I thought you might too.

Here’s an excerpt:

“Home daycare, also known as family daycare, is exactly what it sounds like — daycare in a home instead of a center. This arrangement has been around as long as women have had neighbors and friends nearby to help care for their kids. Today it’s a way for many moms who prefer to stay at home and who truly enjoy taking care of children to do work they love and contribute to the family finances at the same time. “Most home providers have made a conscious decision to do this as a career,” says Anne Mead, treasurer of the National Association for Family Child Care.”

New Home Daycare Provider Watch Alert 20

Hi,

I’ve just been reading about yet another new home daycare provider. It looks like this home daycare business is really catching on with mothers like Kristyn. And it’s easy to understand why when you’re both staying home with the kids and running a fun and stimulating business.

Here’s an excerpt from Kristyn’s blog post:

“It was great to be able to help out with camp in a way that didn’t require me to be away from Abby, and it was great practice for when I start my home daycare in June. And I now know for sure that I won’t take more than four kids at a time, at least while Abby is still a baby!!”

New Home Daycare Provider Watch Alert 19

Hi,

I’ve just been reading about yet another new home daycare provider on a message board and this time she’s only 18 years old. Her story’s really interesting. It just shows you that you can overcome most obstacles, such as age, if you really want your own home daycare bad enough.

Here’s the orginal post:

“Hello, I am preparing myself to open a home-based daycare center! I am very excited, but worried. I’m young, 18, and have one child of my own 18 months, and I love children A LOT! I’m scared that my age will make parents not want to trust me! I rent to own my own home, and am engaged to be married! So could you please give me some tips on how to stay positive, my only defense is that I’m a GOD fearing woman, whom because of my age makes it very easy to get down and play with the kids, unlike other daycare providers! Also, I was wondering if you could help me by telling me some of the things I need to look out for, for the home inspections! Thanks so much, Ashly”

New Home Daycare Provider Watch Alert 17

Hi,

I’ve just been reading a blog post written by lilkimm, a very defiant mother who’s determined to stay at home with her child.

I recommend you read her post: it’s really quite inspiring.

Here’s an excerpt:

“I dropped off my “not returning” letters to both my previous jobs this week.
I knew I wasnt going to go back from the time Elianna was about 4 months old.
I can not imagine another person looking after MY daughter.
“I am” not ready to have her left alone without me.

I’ve decided I’m going to do home daycare.
I think it should be MY right to stay home and raise my child.
I know A Lot of people dont agree with that but I don’t care, lol.
I’ve been told “oh you’ll regret not putting her in day care while she’s young”
Well I don’t care, it’s my choice.”

Naming Your Home Daycare

Hi,

A lot of home daycare providers struggle to come up with a good name for their home daycare. I’ve just been reading a forum thread started by such a person and I thought you may find it useful.

Here’s the original post:

“Right now I’ve named my childcare

Cory Family Daycare

However, I want a fun name!! I felt like I needed to come up with something quick and that is what it was.

I’m thinking of

Cory Family’s Circle of Friends

What do you think???

Can you PLEASE help give me some more names???”

Slow Kids In Daycare

Hi,

I’ve just been reading a forum thread started by a home daycare provider who’s frustrated because she has a slow child and the child’s parents won’t do anything about it.

I thought it might be useful for any other providers in that situation.

Here’s the initial forum post:

I have a dkp that is clueless that her daughter is a bit slower than she should be. I have been working with her on everyday things, like eating, drinking from a real cup, and simple tasks. When I ask her to do 2 things in a row, get her shoes and coat and put them on, she looks at me like I am speaking a foreign language. It is very frustrating. It is a constant battle and her parents seem to careless. I approached mom to say that I think there are thing we need to work on, gave her a few examples and left it at that. That was around Christmas, and that is what mom choked it up to being, she was excited about Christmas and could not focus. I since have looked online to see what a 3 yr 5 month old child should be capable of and she can not do many. The main thing I am concerned about is that she will not get the help she needs and it will hurt her later on. The school district offers free preschool screening and I have suggested it to mom, as I do all my kids parents to make sure they are all on the right path, but she says nothing is wrong and I don’t need to worry about it. The main thing that bothers me is I have 2 yos that can do more than she can and she is slowing us down. She can not focus or follow more than one thing at a time. I know it is a learned skill and it needs time, but my patience is wearing thin with her. How can I or should I even bother letting mom know I think she should really go for the screening? Any one else deal with this? What can I do with her to help her get moving in the right direction? She is a very good kid, I just think she needs some other help that I can not offer to her.

TIA”
